Summer 2009 |
Guitar Summer Camps 2009 We'll be having lots of fun in this summer at Paul Roberts Guitar. I will be hosting six day camps this year, running from June 8th through July 17th. Students learn to play and record different styles of music including reggae, blues and rock, and the class will compose a song as a group. We rehearse as a band for an optional final performance! Spots still available so contact me at paul@paulrobertsguitar.com or 720-479-9697 if your son or daughter would like to rock out this summer!
The Boulder Creek Festival 2009
What a Memorial Day weekend it was....and then the rain came! I want to thank everyone who dropped by my booth on Central Commons. This year, I had 210 entries in my drawing for 5 free guitar lessons. The winner was a young girl named Catherine. Congratulations Catherine! Anyone interested in a free introductory lesson please call or email me.
Practice Tips One of my personal favorite rehearsal techniques is to practice with a partner. It is such an advantage to have a friend or family member listen and watch, or even play along with you, and then offer feedback. A practice buddy can help by hearing when you are not in tune, or can help with a difficult chord or part of a solo. In addition, practicing together helps students commit to a practice schedule. When you set up a time to meet with a practice buddy, you are making yourself more accountable to regular practice sessions. The best thing about a practice partner is the moral support that it brings, especially between two students having the same struggles with learning an instrument or improving their playing. Each student uplifts and helps the other.
This Time in Music History
This summer marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. In the summer of 1969 this three day landmark concert took place on Max Yasgur's farm in the the town of Woodstock, in upstate New York. The estimated attendance over the three days was close to 750,000 people.
The concert was notable for a number of reasons - it marked the end of the sixties peace and love movement as disillusionment was on the rise. It also marked the move of the three day music festival in the cultural mainstream.
Woodstock featured legendary performances by established acts - The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and introduced Carlos Santana, Richie Havens and a young Englishman - Joe Cocker who almost stole the show with his set which included a now legendary performance of The Beatles' With a Little Help From My Friends.
It may be 40 years since Woodstock but the spell that this event cast over a whole generation of music lovers is still being felt today.
